Hey there
I’m Jon, a Lead Product Designer building food software by day and playing guitar by night. My guitar doesn't gently weep, but my neighbors do.
2021 - Now
Currently I’m designing at ChowNow where we help independent restaurants thrive through online ordering and order management software. My focus has been on our diner-facing ordering app: a 3-sided marketplace similar to DoorDash and UberEats. As a Design Lead, I am involved in the strategy, planning, and execution of ChowNow’s highest priority diner-facing initiatives.
My
favorite
projects
have
been
those
that
demanded
consideration
across
our
restaurants,
diners,
and
delivery
partners
and
had
some
challenging
interaction
problems.
My
redesign
was
a
retention-focused
initiative
with
a
goal
of
improving
the
experience
to
monitor
an
order
in
progress.
I
considered
of
the
full
service
blueprint
of
pickup,
delivery,
and
curbside
orders
and
had
some
fun
with
UI
and
interaction
design.
In
our
evaluative
testing,
100%
of
participants
chose
the
redesigned
tracking
UX
over
our
current
UX
for
tracking
their
order.
My
work
focused
on
restaurant
discovery
by
empowering
pickup
diners
to
explore
restaurants
around
them.
This
required
an
especially
close
collaboration
with
my
iOS
and
Android
engineering
counterparts
to
assure
the
map
always
felt
clean,
legible,
and
delightful
to
use
no
matter
the
restaurant
density
or
zoom
level.
Since
its
release,
23,874
orders
have
come
from
the
map
view.
My
work
was
a
grassroots
project
of
mine
to
evangelize
the
"post
purchase
moment"
as
the
best
time
to
highlight
the
value
of
ChowNow
over
our
competitors.
It
gained
traction
interally
so
we
prioritized
and
shipped
it.
I
loved
digging
into
the
animations
and
choreography.
Now
after
placing
an
order,
77%
of
diners
stay
to
see
the
their
impact.
2018 - 2021
Bain was where I cut my teeth in design. I worked with Fortune 100 & 500 companies across 8+ industries, including Automobile, Enterprise, and Retail, to define and realize new business strategy through digital product design. One of the projects I was most proud of was a transformation management tool called ARC. Alongside another designer, we designed and shipped the entire tool from scratch.
2015 - 2017
I joined Occuspace in college as it's founding designer where I designed and shipped their B2C mobile app which allowed students at UCSD to monitor busyness of areas around their campus. The app is still in use today and has since scaled to 15 campuses nationally.
About
As a strategic-minded Product Designer, my cup is most full when I'm digging deep into the details on a problem that stems from thoughtful strategy. Feeling like I'm growing personally and professionally is paramount to my happiness and I love being surrounded by a team that does as well.
Outside of work I'm playing blues guitar, listening to music, or reading up on interior design and architecture. It has been a total blast finding the common threads between my hobbies, like bringing interior design learnings into my digital visual design or approaching guitar with the same level of curiosity I approach design problems with.
We need to break down those silos and herd these cats in order to ship our Q2 MVP before Q3 planning.
